Revlon Red is not just an iconic nail polish, it’s an iconic color. Cult Classics usually earn cult status by having universal appeal, like Clinique Black Honey *click here for my Cult Classics review* and NARS Orgasm *click here for my Cult Classics review*. Red nails are as ubiquitous and adored as the little black dress – perfect for daytime, nighttime, and pay time.
Revlon Nail Enamel is available in dozens of shades, but the eponymous Revlon Red is the most recognizable of all. It’s never easy to find the perfect shade of red for lipstick or for nails, but Revlon Red is a true red, neither too orange nor too blue. The Revlon Nail Enamel formula has been around seemingly forever. It isn’t specifically branded quick-drying, but provides a good medium between quick drying and a smooth, glossy finish. For their classic Nail Enamels, Revlon provides a traditional nail polish brush, thin and round. Best of all, it’s made completely free of DBP, toluene, and formaldehyde.

Revlon Nail Enamels aren’t the most incredible quality on the market, but they’re good. They apply smoothly, dry reasonably quickly, and wear for at least a week without chipping. Revlon’s classic nail polish is also very well priced and widely available, making them accessible to even the most bargain conscious beauty shopper. They’re a fantastic buy and Revlon Red was the first one I ever tried.
Revlon Red is the perfect red. I wish Revlon made a Revlon Red lipstick, blush, eyeshadow, and anything else they could make. This is perhaps the most iconic red in cosmetics. A red that is neither too orange nor too blue can almost act against a neural. When I pair Revlon Red against clothing or accessories that are more yellow and orange, it looks brighter and warmer. Likewise, when I wear it with blue and purple, it looks a little darker and more cool toned. Because it’s such a neutral red, it also looks flattering against a wide range of skin tones. It’s a versatile, true red.
You can definitely get higher quality nail polish or nail polish in a million different shades of red, but if you want a classic red at a bargain price, go with Revlon Red. $3.97 at Walmart, $3.99 at Target, $4.99 at Walgreens, $5.49 at Rite Aid, $5.79 at CVS
