I don’t frequently do an entire review on a single eyeshadow shade, but since I posted my cult classics review of Stila’s eyeshadow single in Kitten, I thought I’d follow it up with a review of Puppy, the matte companion shade. If Kitten is too shimmery or frosty for you, Puppy may be just what you need.
Puppy is a completely matte, light-medium nude linen shade. Like all Stila eyeshadow singles, the 2.6 gram round pan is housed in a slim round pot with a clear lid so you can see the contents. All of Stila’s single eyeshadow pans are held in the pots magnetically, not with glue so you can pop the pan out and replace it with a different color or refill it when you’ve finished the shadow. The exterior packaging as well as the eyeshadow pot are completely biodegradable, making Stila an eco-friendly brand.
Ingredients: Talc, Triethylhexanoin, Zinc Stearate, Lauroyl Lysine, Nylon-12, Magnesium Carbonate, Boron Nitride, Silica, Tocopheryl Acetate, Caprylyl Glycol, Hexylene Glycol, Phenoxyethanol, May Contain (+/-) Mica,Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499), Carmine (CI 75470), Ultramarines (CI 77007), Blue 1 Lake (CI 42090), Ferric Ferrocyanide (CI 77510), Manganese Violet (CI 77742), Chromium Oxide Greens (CI 77288), Yellow 5 Lake (CI 19140), Bismuth Oxychloride (CI 77163).
As a fan of matte shadows in general, and a huge fan of Stila’s quality eyeshadows, I’m a bit biased, but I really like this shadow. It isn’t particularly unique, but it’s very versatile, easy to wear, and the quality is amazing. Even though Puppy is completely matte, it isn’t powdery at all; it applies very smoothly and blends very easily. I have very fair skin, so I can use it as a subtle crease shade, but for anyone with medium or deep skin, it would be a beautiful eyelid or highlight shade that brightens without shimmer.
One of the best things about Stila eyeshadow singles is the packaging, which is completely biodegradable, the pots are also reusable since you can pop out the pans, which are held in magnetically. The ability to easily remove the pan also allows you to use or store your shadows in a freeform palette and change them out whenever you so choose.
I don’t think Puppy is unique enough to be a must-have, but it is a very useful, very versatile, wonderful quality shadow and $18 for 2.6 grams of product is a great value for high end eyeshadow. I’ll definitely repurchase Puppy when I run out.
