April Favorites

April Favorites Everything1I always feel like this time of year is makeup-by-Sybil time. It seems every other day is either a bright, crisp, sunny spring day or a dreary, overcast spring day. My springtime makeup tends to be either dark, smoky, overcast-weather type eyes with a neutral face or soft, pastel everything with hints of green. This month’s list of favorites includes items for both looks.

April Favorites18bareMinerals Original Foundation – Mineral foundation is quick and gives a natural feel and finish with light to medium coverage. I love using bareMinerals foundation when I need something that’s easy to apply and won’t clog my pores. Using mineral makeup also saves me the extra step of applying sunscreen since it already has an spf 15.

April Favorites17EcoTools Buffing Brush – This is my favorite brush for applying mineral foundation. It’s a really soft medium-sized, dense, round, flat top, brush that does an amazing job of buffing in my bareMinerals foundation. It’s large enough that a full face application doesn’t take long and still precise enough to work around my nose, eye area, and hair line.

April Favorites16Too Faced Milk Chocolate Soleil Matte Bronzing Powder – Milk Chocolate Soleil is light enough to not muddy my super-pale, translucent complexion, and has the perfect tone that is cool and grey enough to contour, but also warm enough to perk up my skin.

April Favorites15Too Faced Sweethearts Perfect Flush Blush in Candy Glow – Too Faced really got it right with this blush. It’s a gorgeous peach and pink, shimmery satin blush that’s perfect for cool spring days. It gives a beautiful, naturally flushed look with a pretty spring pastel hue. I also love that it’s baked and can be applied wet or dry.

April Favorites6Too Faced Shadow Insurance Champagne Eyeshadow Primer – Shadow Insurance is one of my favorite eye primers; the champagne variety has all the same great qualities as the original: preventing eye shadow from creasing, making colors more vivid, and preventing eye shadow from fading throughout the day, but it also has a bronzy champagne shimmer.

April Favorites7L’Oreal Infallible 24 Hour Eye Shadow in Endless Pearl, Liquid Diamond, Sultry Smoke, Eternal Black – I usually have long days and that means long days for my makeup too, so a long-wearing formula is important. L’Oreal’s Infallible eye shadows are long wearing, fade-resistant, crease-resistant, and wonderfully blendable. I like to use these four particular colors as an eye shadow quad, which is why they’re all included as one item. Endless Pearl makes a great matte-satin highlight shade below the eyebrow and is perfect for brightening the inner corner area. Liquid Diamond is a muted, shimmery lavender mid-tone that I love using as a lid shade. Sultry Smoke coordinates perfectly with Liquid Diamond to deepen and blend out the outer part of the lid, into the crease, and just above the crease area to soften the transition between the darkest crease shade and lightest highlight shade. Eternal Black is a deep, rich black with silver micro-glitter that does a great job of defining the crease and outer v area while adding a little sparkle.

April Favorites8Maybelline Eye Studio Limited Edition Color Tattoo in Icy Mint – I love the Color Tattoo formula and Icy Mint is a great, fresh spring color. Like all of the Color Tattoos it works well both as a base for powder shadows or worn alone. Once applied, the cream-gel formula sets to a long-wearing finish.

April Favorites9Maybelline Eye Studio Limited Edition Color Tattoo in Seashore Frosts – This is the most complex, unique, gorgeous shade in the new Limited Edition set of Color Tattoos. I love it for spring. It’s a gorgeous slate blue with a cool green tone and a golden shift. Sometimes I like just wearing this shade alone all over my lid, blended up through the crease area and just above.

April Favorites10Maybelline Eye Studio Color Tattoo Metal in Inked in Pink – Pink shadows are some of my favorites; I love how soft and feminine they look. This is another one that works well as a base or alone to easily brighten the lid area. It works perfectly with a chocolate color in the crease area and a pale vanilla highlight.

April Favorites11Maybelline Eye Studio Color Tattoo 24 Hour Cream Gel Shadow in Audacious Asphalt – For gloomy days, Audacious Asphalt makes a perfect base for grey, smoky looks. It works well used lightly all over the lid and throughout the crease, giving powder shadows something to adhere to and adding a subtle shimmer beneath deeper matte shadows.

April Favorites12Maybelline Eye Studio Color Plush Silk Eyeshadow in Green with Envy – For brighter spring days, this quad has a gorgeous creamy ivory highlight shade, a soft, brightening green, deep green contour and a golden bronze to add some warmth to the overall look. All the shadows are shimmery, wonderfully blendable, and have great pigmentation.

April Favorites13NYX Smokey Shadow Palette – This palette has all the essentials for a smoky eye look. It’s easy to use either on its own or combined with some of the Maybelline Color Tattoos or L’Oreal Infallible shadows listed above.

April Favorites14Too Faced Shadow Brushes 3 Piece Set – I love this set. It’s travel friendly, the brushes still have long handles, and each of the three brushes is useful and versatile enough that I can put together entire eye looks using only these three brushes.

April Favorites5Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter in Creme Brulee – For days when I’m wearing dark, smoky eye looks, I like using a basic, creamy, nude lip color. This is it. It isn’t too cool or too warm. It also comes with a wallet-friendly drugstore price tag, is available almost anywhere, and does a great job of moisturizing my lips so I don’t need a separate lip balm.

April Favorites4Neutrogena MoistureSmooth Color Stick in Fresh Papaya – I love all of the Neutrogena MoistureSmooth Color Sticks, but I’ve been wearing Fresh Papaya the most this month. The pinky peach hue coordinates perfectly with my Too Faced blush adding some soft, spring time color to my looks. these sticks are also easy to apply and very hydrating.

April Favorites3Scunci No Slip Grip Open Center Stay Tight Barrettes – I don’t really do a whole lot when it comes to my hair. I mostly just let it air dry and wear it down, au naturale, but sometimes I need to get it out of my face and that’s where these little clips come in. My hair is extremely fine, which feels nice and silky, but means it slips right out of almost every clip – not this one though. The addition of a simple rubbery-plastic piece on the underside of the clip makes it grip my hair without breaking it or making for an uncomfortable removal.

April Favorites2Revlon Nail Enamel in Creme Brulee – Creme Brulee is my all time favorite nude nail polish. The neutral tone is a great complement to my skin, it has just enough shimmer that it isn’t boring but is demure enough to be appropriate for any situation. It’s also inexpensive, widely available, and has decent chip-free wear time.
$3.79 at Target; $3.99 at Walgreens; $4.99 at Ulta

April Favorites1Essie Nail Lacquer in Fiji – I’m kinda new to Essie nail polish and while I don’t think I’m crazy about the formula, or perhaps I just haven’t figured out how to work with it yet, I keep getting more of them because I’m so in love with their colors – I’m torn overall about Essie, but Fiji is such a pretty pink, perfect for spring. I’ve had it on my nails quite a bit this month.
