Like my never-ending quest for the perfect foundation, I’m always searching for an eyeliner that will actually stay where I put it. My skin in general and eyelids in particular are very oily and to make matters worse, my eyes are very watery. Every eyeliner I use either just along my lash line or in my water line seems to smudge and smear. The biggest problem I have is that pretty much all of my eyeliners seem to smear under my eyes making little dark circle marks beneath my eyes. To be fair, my mascara is also usually to blame. I think I may have found an eyeliner that won’t smear, it isn’t a pencil, which is my preferred format, but it is well behaved and that counts for a lot.
Stila’s Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner is a felt-tip style liquid eye liner pen. The tip comes to a fine point for precision application and is reasonably flexible for comfort. The pen’s cap closes very securely so you don’t have to worry about it popping off in your purse or makeup bag, leaving a huge mess. The color, intense black, is a very dark, true black and the finish is neither particularly glossy nor matte.
Ingredients: Water/Aqua, Styrene/Acrylates Copolymer, Butylene Glycol, Beheneth-30, Sodium Polyaspartate,Phenoxyethanol, Alcohol, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Sodium Dehydroacetate, Disodium EDTA, Acrylates/Octylacrylamide Copolymer, Sodium Hydroxide, Xanthan Gum, May Contain (+/_) Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499), Ferric Ammonium Ferrocyanide (CI 77510), Black 2 (CI 77266).
Liquid eyeliners aren’t generally my favorite because they can be unforgiving if your application isn’t perfect. The felt-tip pen style also tends to be rather unforgiving compared to liquid liners that apply with a very long, thin brush style applicator. Felt tip pens are tapered so if you press too hard, the wider part of the pen will press against your lid making a thicker line than you probably meant to draw. This isn’t Stila’s fault though or unique to Stila’s liquid eyeliner pen. If you have a steady enough hand or even if you prefer the felt-tip pen liquid liner applicator style, then this is definitely for you.
I love using this pen to fill in between my eyelashes because the precision tip is so fine and skinny it can reach between my lashes without making a mess. Intense Black is a very appropriate name. This pen is an incredibly deep, true black that really makes your lash line look bold.
The real reason I adore this eyeliner is that it doesn’t smudge! It reminds me a lot of blinc mascara, which is a unique polymer that, once dry, simply cannot smudge. Even when my eyes water, as long as I don’t touch my eyeliner, Stila’s Stay All Day liner will do exactly that – it will stay put. I can even dab around my eyes with a tissue to absorb excess tearing and nothing transfers! It doesn’t give me panda eyes, doesn’t irritate my sensitive eyes, and doesn’t fade throughout the day. I love not having to touch up my eyeliner at all.
Many waterproof, long-wearing products are perhaps a little too long-wearing. Sometimes they can be difficult to remove. This isn’t a problem at all with Stila’s pen! I simply saturate a cotton swab with eye makeup remover or pure coconut oil and gently swirl or rub it over the liner and it comes right off without fuss or irritation.
The pen’s packaging is sleek, compact, convenient for travel and best of all, secure. I haven’t had any problems with this pen drying out or being inconsistent at all. Felt-tip style eyeliner pens have a tendency to dry out rather quickly. I’ve been using my Stila pen for several months and it’s still going strong.
I love when a product does exactly what it promises and performs exactly as expected. Stila’s Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner definitely stays where I put it, all day long, even on very long, long days and comes off easily when I want it to. It doesn’t smear at all even when my eyes tear up and water a lot, for hours at a time, so the waterproof claim is solid. The color is a rich, saturated, true, deep black. The only drawback to the product is the felt-tip style applicator. If you have trouble with a steady hand or precision application, you may want to top this product with a powder shadow. Otherwise, I highly recommend Stila’s waterproof liquid pen.
